    This sounds so cool! I loved the dynamic contrast, it made the piece sound much more alive, and the band did such a good job with changing style/ articulations so quickly while keeping consistently good tone. This really helps me know what it's supposed to sound like. My band is playing this for our spring concert, and I hope we sound as good as this does <3 wish us luck, lol.

      The forums are all over the place with modern coolant. Now the general philosophy is just use the same type, don't mix. Prestone is a general coolant for any vehicle and because my E30 is so old and crappy, I'm not concerned about super longterm damage to the block or head. After 5 years and 60k miles of running Prestone, I haven't had any issues. I agree though with you that if I was to use correct BMW coolant, I'd use the blue stuff.

    Did you do anything particular to prime the OVS? in the assembly instruction, this last step is mentioned, but I find the description a bit mysterious and wonder if this is really necessary...just finish assembling mine..

    • @bigilworth
      @bigilworth 3 місяці тому

      I didn't prime mine. They suggest to put some oil in the tube that connects to the crankcase. It's the same principal that governs the u-bend in facet pipes. The car drove just fine without having done that primer step and I've put 7000+ miles on the car so far so I'm assuming there is a little oil now in that tube bend. Congratulations on getting your OVS built! I found my engine performed better with a new one. And now every time I see Alfa's with original an OVS, I tried to explain to the owner the benefits. Seems nobody really knows how awful those original parts are.

      This was beautifully played and I heard a LOT of amazing musical expression. Mistakes happen even in “professional” ensembles. To have a “inexcusable” mentality in music is the mindset and reason why people quit or don’t continue a field in music education. Why can’t we just appreciate the overall sound and effort here!?

      The first time I ever heard the President's Own Marine Band perform live I heard an obvious foul up in the very first piece played (Suppé's Light Cavalry Overture). We're all human; including the performers of any and all top tier ensembles. All those recordings you might know about where it seems like perfection was achieved? Yeah those almost always combine several takes of the same piece and mistakes are edited out to the best of the audio engineers' abilities. Even in auditions the performance is never flawless. Jeff Nelsen of the Canadian Brass openly remarked that every audition he ever won had visible mistakes in it in terms of note accuracy.

    Marcel Grundmann 0 seconds ago Its true, breathing is a problem, so solution is...drill trough the pcv valve (4mm) on the right rockercover ( remove it before you do it!) remove the plastic hose with the t piece connecting the pcv to the plenum chamber. remove the lh rockercover breather going to the air intake. Now slowly heat up the plastic hose at the t piece and remove the t piece. Rh Rockercover back on. clip the hose back on the drilled out pcv connector, use a silicone hose piece and the old plastic hose to extend the pcv hose with the original removed plastic hose, it routes along the back of the engine just like before, just no t piece, ending up parallel to rh rockercover breather, cut rh rockercover breather and fit with careful heat the t piece, connect hose back to air intake . clip it all back into the hose supports. block the plenum chamber inlets, done.... no more breathing problems, looks factory, cant tell the difference, huge difference in engine cleanliness, however the throttle body does get a bit dirty over time and should just be wiped out every second service, these engine always consume some oil, checks and regular services are a must.... any questions or pictures contact Boat and Bumper.... Great vid mate! I love my gold 2008 VE V6 Commodore 60th anniversary edition. (just a 4 speed auto) It is a beautiful machine with stock 18 inch Y spoke wheels. The engine is a sweet smooth revving beast with the simplest at home bolt-on mods with good oil. I use Penrite HPR5 full synthetic oil which is 5w30 + 10 that is great for our stinking hot summers here which can get to 40+ around Christmas time. Oil is cheap preventative maintenance as low as or less than $10 per litre when on sale. $80 for oil and filter change done myself with minimal tools every 10000km is dirt cheap. The oil filter change is so easy and cheap that I change it every 5000km. I installed the Orsomm Performance OTR cold air intake that actually works as claimed with great throttle response, power increase and has a great growl. I bought mine second hand cheaply from a bloke that had his car destroyed in an accident. otrcai.com/ Next thing to do is remove the massive stock rear muffler that has the exhaust gasses change directions 6 times inside. Replace it with a sport straight through muffler or in my case, a 3 inch muffler delete. There is a common problem with this V6 which is very easy to fix at home. The problem is that the crankcase ventilation on the left bank is very poor with the stock PCV and people not changing oil regularly or using garbage oil, which leads to various problems including bad timing chain and variable cam timing lubrication when the PCV and oil ports block up. Super simple fix is to pull out the crankcase ventilation valve at the back of the left bank, drill the 2 vent holes a little larger and put it back in. I have economy as low as 8.5 litres per 100km on the highway with great power to overtake a 50 meter road train in seconds. Some people have removed the plastic engine covers claiming that they trap heat in. I am not sure about that, but it looks plausible. I have not yet removed mine because they look nice when kept clean. Would you recommend leaving them on or taking them off, perhaps in regard to our horrid hot summers and under bonnet temps in traffic? I respect your opinions and advice. Regards, Jas. What if the car doesnt start?

    • @bigilworth
      @bigilworth 2 роки тому

      If you can't start the car, there is no reliable way to bleed the air out of the coolant system because you can't get the water pump to work. I would work on getting the car to start before you do a coolant flush.

    • @bigilworth
      @bigilworth 2 роки тому

      @@jayelectic8017 You didn't mess anything! It only means you can't bleed the air out of the coolant system until you get the car started. If you were to do an engine rebuild, you'd have the same problem - doing a coolant change before having the car start for the first time. You're totally fine. After you get the system filled with as much coolant as it will take, start working on getting the car to start and run. Once it's running, then follow the video's procedures for bleeding air out of the system. You'll want to have the funnel filled with coolant to allow bubbles to work themselves out. E30s are incredibly fun to work on because they're so easy to work on. You'll have a great time trying to get the car running.

  • @1devz1
    @1devz1 2 роки тому

    Just purchased this funnel kit to make the bleeding process easier. But before I attempt to bleed the system, I was wandering do you plug the overspill pipe during this process? Otherwise, the coolant stored in the funnel will just leak out of the overspill pipe?

    • @bigilworth
      @bigilworth 2 роки тому

      No need to plug the overspill funnel during the process. You actually want to keep it 1/2 full at all times to allow air to escape and more coolant to flow into the system. If you plug it up then air can't escape nor can coolant enter the system. Once you feel that the system has been bleed of all air, turn the car off and then plug the overspill funnel. That way when you detach it from the coolant reservoir, no coolant will spill out all over the place. You'll most likely need to remove some coolant from the reservoir afterwards because it will be right at the top of the cap. I usually do that with a turkey baster. Good luck!

    • @1devz1
      @1devz1 2 роки тому

      @@bigilworth sorry I should have been more clear. I was referring to the overflow pipe from the reservoir tank which drains out to the bottom of the chassis when there is noo much pressure/coolant in the system. Does this pipe need to be plugged when using the funnel method?

    • @bigilworth
      @bigilworth 2 роки тому

      @@1devz1 Ah gotcha. No that pipe doesn't vent extra coolant unless the system becomes over pressurized. It wasn't until I was doing a spark plug job and had to move the reservoir, (which was months after using this funnel and creating the video), that I even noticed that vent tube. Definitely no coolant came out of that tube while bleeding the system and while using that funnel. However if it makes you feel more comfortable, you could just plug it. A simple clamp or rubber plug will do the trick.

    Nice vid! However, you are actually supposed to apply a sealant before inserting the new PCV Orifice (or Valve), based on the Workshop Manual. Also, when you insert it, you need to twist it in order to eliminate any vertical leak paths in the sealant (still based on the manual instructions). By the way, the manual I have is for a 2008 - 2011 Cadillac CTS, which includes 3.6L V6 LLT engine (same as yours) and other different types of engines, but this procedure would also apply to yours. Some RTV sealant would work (Permatex Red High Temperature RTV for example). I have the same engine on my 2008 Cadillac CTS and I am planning to do this soon in addition to doing some manual intake valves cleaning (which requires removal of intake manifold, etc.)...right before the next oil change. Free advice, I would also encourage doing the following to improve your vehicle's performance. I have personally done these and can't be any happier. You can research about it if you don't trust me or are not confident enough: - Use some Fuel System Cleaner in the gas tank (STP worked greatly for me) - Replace the engine air filter (if needed and based on maintenance schedule) - Clean the Throttle Body Assembly - Clean the Mass Air Flow sensor - Add some Lucas lube in the oil (make sure the oil level doesn't go over the limit on the dipstick) - Replace the spark plugs if needed There are many other things you could do to improve your car's performance. Cheers! 😉

    • @bigilworth
      @bigilworth 2 роки тому

      Thanks for the added instructions! My manual doesn't have any RTV needed, but it's always good practice to put a little in these sorts of applications. It can't hurt in sealing 100% any vacuum leaks. I haven't done a smoke test on my car, but it runs really well with no codes so I'm pretty sure the PCV Valve mod is working well.

      @@bigilworth I didn't say working on cars is ridiculous. Building and assembling your own PARTS is ridiculous. I'd happily pay 300-350 even. Alfa Romeos already have enough projects to add making your own parts. Just saying.

      And centerline Alfa only sells later Bosch units. And if you check they are out of stock when you go to complete order... That's what lead me here. Great job again, by you and the designer. I'm truly impressed as I said before. Your skill is desired.

      Oh I totally get it! For me owning this car is just as much about the driving experience as it is about learning how to fix them and the hobby of DYI projects. But I totally understand how doing all this work is not for everyone.

      @bigilworth 2 роки тому

      Oh I didn't know that Centerline is out of stock. I'm surprised that Alfa Romeo doesn't have a replacement you can buy. They made hundreds of thousands of these cars that need the Alfa OVS and they all need to be replaced. You could go with an non-alfa aftermarket solution if you don't want to make something specific to Alfa. Essentially all OVSs are the same. Moroso makes a great OVS or oil catch can. And installation is incredibly simple.

      Buy the one from the dealership and check the hole size with the proper drill-bits. If they are too small, then you know you'll need to drill them out and make larger.

    I'm SO glad I've watched vids about this issue!! I've got a gorgeous Cranberry colored 2015 Impala LTZ, with the 3.6L VVT. 70,000mi on her now in Feb. 2022. YES! Somebody brought up Seafoam!! For yeeeeaars now, I've been adding 1 Cup of SF to my Crankcase 1-2 weeks before an Oil-change. NEVER more than 5K mile intervals!!! Always Mobil-1. Per the Owners-manual, the ONLY Gas it's ever seen is NO-ETHANOL Certified TOP-TIER CLASS Premium.....from Shell or Holiday Stations. Once a month, when the tanks are @ 1/4, I put 1/3 bottle of SF into the tanks. ALL my engines (big & little) are running STRONG & clean. How many bottles of SF did I buy in 2021??? >>> TWELVE <<< 🤓😲

    • @bigilworth
      @bigilworth 2 роки тому

      My car misfires all the time. I bought one of those code reading devices. My Camaro misfires because of a detected O2 sensor fault, but I've changed out the O2 sensors and I still get the fault. So my guess is a vacuum leak and I'm too cheap to buy a smoke machine or have a mechanic do it. I would suspect your misfire is due to a vacuum leak rather than the positive crankcase pressure which is what this video is about.

  • @thenightangel6533
    @thenightangel6533 2 роки тому

    So. It is the reason. VE had a problem with timing chain.

    • @bigilworth
      @bigilworth 2 роки тому

      Possibly. If there is too much positive crankcase pressure it could create overheating problems, or blow-by. I think the timing chain issues are due to these cars consuming a lot of oil, the owner not routinely checking the oil, and therefore lack of oil stretches out the chains and causes failure.

    Hi! I know it's a "basic" item but where did you find this funnel? And if I understand it is used to keep the level higher than anything to facilitate the evacuation of air bubbles, is that it?

    • @bigilworth
      @bigilworth 2 роки тому

      Thank you for the comment. Do an amazon search for "coolant overspill funnel" and you'll find all the different companies making these funnels. The brand I used in the video is Lisle. You are correct that the point of these funnels is to facilitate the bleeding of air inside the radiator system. It makes the air bleeding process incredibly easy and it reduces the messiness of bleeding air out of the system. Good luck!

    Where does the hose on the left go to? The hose without the sleeve on the reservoir.

    • @bigilworth
      @bigilworth 2 роки тому

      That hose doesn't connect to anything and routes to the bottom of the chassis. It's part of the expansion tank's overfill safety mechanism. If the expansion tank builds up too much pressure and/or fluid, it can escape via that hose.
